That is alot of finalists So have I got this right that Jay won out of all of them? Or was there different categories? $100,000 is a lot of money back then! Thanks for the information about the costume. That is fantastic! ;D Not suprising he designed it (but that he was so young and did it) as when I first discovered him and was looking through all the pictures he has great style and I did wonder if something to do with clothing was ANOTHER talent he had I remember seeing Flashdance at the cinema It was a great movie of its time (as well as Footloose). That song by Irena Cara I think it was, is still great. Now I've got it in my head What ever happened to Jennifer Beals?

Actually we just found out there were 500,000 finalist from as many as 45 nations... in 1983 dance had reached a fear pitch, with movies like Flash Dance and Breaking on the big screen and so that year young folks from all over the world competed for the grand prizes of over 100,000 Dollars in cash and a car and a dance scholarships. Jay was also one of the youngest competitors, barely making the lower age limit of 16. His custom which he designed himself was made of black and white leather and it also won the best costume award! Jay was truly ahead of his time with move that still look fresh on a dance floor, over a quarter century ago! Thanks Totem This was an amazing accomplishment for Jay ;D How cool that he designed the costume himself. I was trying to figure out his hairstyle he had. It looked like he had long hair at the time and part was in a pigtail and the rest tied back but the top looked short? I just realized when I went to Youtube to look at the 3rd vid Claudia posted that they were all there since July 2007 and we never knew!! Rae

As far as we know, the panel at Brown University will be on line. Not sure when but check with Brown University site and check under Native Americans at Brown. When we get it we will post it here for sure. Also we been told Jay is in negotiation to play the lead role in a 6 part mini series that will be also a 2 hour film for Germany. He will play the legendary Winnetou the hero from the famous German writer Karl May books. Kevin Sorbo from the hit TV show, ("Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" is in talks to play Shatterhand who is the hero of the series. If this happens it could be very interesting to say the least! We will keep you posted. Jay was the guest of a radio show on sunday which was also filmed. we will post the link for this show soon. So stay tuned.

Yes just as American Idol has 100,000 finalist, the World Dance Championship, which was an international contest, had 5 times more people who entered it. It was a free style dance contest, although they called it Disco dancing as the contest was born after Saturday Night fever craze of the late 70's. The first contest was held in 78, so the one Jay won was the 5th World Championship, and it was a real big deal back then. Each nation had their own championship, which was held to find the best dancer to send forth to the World final contest. But most of the show is missing, and Jay's winning routine is not there. Maybe one day we will find the whole show. Keep fingers crossed.

At least we have some Jay footage which is better than nothing ;D Wow, 5th World Championship win is fantastic What was his age? Was he the youngest to ever win? Great news! I hope it works out although who knows if we will get it in Australia as it sounds like it is going to tv correct? Hopefully it will go to dvd. Does this Winnetou die? Do the actors have to learn German for their roles? Great to see Kevin again. He seems to have disappeared. Perhaps not in the USA? Thanks. Looking forward to this

Rae As far as we know it's an American production and the 6 part mini series will also be cut into a 2 hour film. It will be released all over the World. Karl May books have a large following all over the World. With 82 books, there are plenty of films to be made. When this is a sure thing we will post more detail. Sorry it's just the way Hollywood works. You guys wanted to know what is next this is a possible project. Mr. Tavare has other projects that he may pick to do before this. Either way it will be posted as soon as it's official.

Hi, Once again, thank you for posting Jay's performance. Clearly, Jay had no competition, the moves he was doing are extremely difficult, and he owned them!! I think he actually took Hip Hop to another level, much more demanding, and a great deal more challenging and so much more fun to watch! Well done Jay Tavare! Thanks again Claudia! Laura:)

Too bad the DVD's of the show are all Region 2.......I would have loved to see a few of them as they seem quite interesting. Don't be sorry. I have followed another actor for years and I know how Hollywood works LOL!!!! There are a lot of negotiations, then financing, then distributions, etc..................a lengthy process to be sure. I appreciate all your are doing in bringing us any news Rae
