Hello Kama, Or Yat- eh', is how you say hello in Dineh which is the language of the Navajo's or Nesh Ta Gol teh as you would say in Apache or Ind'a. Both are dialects of Athabascan Language but spoken in different ways. Yes the Dineh language is taught to all Navajo kids at school and they are one of the largest tribes here in North America. Most of the Indian languages are endangered and the younger generations need to show more interest in them. Yes you are right, a language is part of the identiy of the people who speak it and must be kept alive for the future generations so they know the old stories of who they are and how they came to be.
I do have an Indian name, it's an Apache name and it means...
"He who remembers the past"...
It is used mostly in ceromonies.
Welcome to the tribe Kama.

Welcome Kama!!!
Good to see you post!! And good question. To me, when a person learns to speak another language, it's almost like having another mind, or seeing another world. Sorry if what i'm trying to say isn't too clear. It amazes me the way a language can tell so much about a people and culture.
Have you gotten to see the movie, "The Missing"? You get to hear Jay speak Apache and Spanish. Made The People proud to hear him, and encouraged the young to learn. Did you get to take a look at the videos on this site??
Take care,
