Mikaela Asks...
Hi there!
First of all, I'd like to say that I'm truly impressed by how you take the time from your busy schedule to answer our questions! I think we all appreciate it immensely. *s*
Since I'm getting a MSc degree in aquatic and environmental engineering, my question to you is about your opinion on the environmental policy of the US government. From what I can tell by what I hear on the news and read on the Internet, commercialism and the economy seems like much more important issues than having a clean place to live for your children and grandchildren as far as the US government is concerned. How do you feel about the fact that Bush is refusing to sign the Kyoto protocol to lessen the amount of greenhouse gases
that are released into the atmosphere every year? I've recently read a report that said that the US government wanted to increase the use of a pesticide called methyl bromide when the rest of the world is trying to get rid of it all together since it depletes the ozone layer pretty badly.
I can give a number of other examples, but my general question is what you think of the environmental situation in the US today.
Thank you so very much for answering my question and many blessings to your day!
/Mikaela
Jay writes...
Hello Mikaela your question address's one of the most important issues facing us and when I say us I mean the entire human race. Our World is now run by large corporations and a corporation is all about one thing...increasing profits for their shareholders. Now that is a good goal but not when it comes at any cost. The United states and our environmental policies need to be examined again and again. Al Gore who should have been our President is only now standing up for global warming which is one of the side effects of all the toxic waste we are dumping both in our atmosphere and our rivers which are the arteries of our Mother Earth. Indians have always believed Earth is a living organism and just like us it needs air to breath and water to wash away and detox and even our 4 seasons have a purpose when it comes to agriculture and how the Earth should be allowed to replenish it's minerals before it should be used again. There is no simple answer but I pray we are not the generation that will be remembered for destroying the natural World. Most Americans are over weight and part of this is because our food is no longer all real. I mean genetically engineered food has been a stable of our diets for a while and no one knows the long term effect it will have on our race. Although every major religion speaks of the fact we maybe living in End Times, I like to think our future is not set in stone having said that I also think the point of no return is around the corner and the only hope for us is to make the changes necessary to save our fragile but very necessary eco system but it all starts with each one of us and how we treat our personal environment and we must speak up so that our voices can be heard by the all mighty and no not God but the Corporations who think they are God! LOL
I wish you all the best in your work.

You are correct about the large Corporations ruining the Earth in the name of Greed. Many religions do talk about End Times. And it is true that our lives are not set in stone. As individuals we can use (it for good) or abuse the gift of Free Will that has been given to us.
Corportaions that are playing "God" will be brought to ruin along with others that are ruining the Earth. Not much longer and the Power of this Earth will stirke back to see that Justice is served in Wisdom and it will be done for the Love of all humankind.

Wow, that was quick! Didn't think I'd get a response that fast, so that was a lovely start of my day!
Some things that are happening today really enfuriates me and I sometimes feel so frustrated because I cannot believe how people can treat our planet this way and think that it's not their problem and that they can get away with it. Do they really think that what they do won't come round and bite them in their own fat behinds? I feel physically sick when I hear about oil dumpings in the ocean, nuclear test bombings, killing of rare animals like wolves, whales, gorillas and what not. Do big corporations and governments not want air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat and being able to be outside without the risk of getting cancer or radioactive burns?!? You might start to wonder sometimes....
This is a topic that really gets me going, so I think I'll stop here before I go too far.

Mickelina:
I can relate to how you feel. Because of the negative things the news says, I don't watch, listen or read it very often. I am very aware what is happening to the Earth because I listen to other people and watch their reactions when things occur.
I was really getting upset with the grim condition the Earth was in until this past September a priceless gem came at the perfect moment. My religion took one of our monthly magazines and made the whole issue on nothing by our Creator and Creation. I found awe, joy but most of hope after I read the magazine.
I was memorized by the beautiful photos of the spiraling galaxies that made up stars in our night sky, to the rainbow of colorful fish that fill the very seas. One article brought out that there are good scientists that are learning and are still learning from the Earth. This made me feel a little better.
My favorite article in the magazine was about plants and how they have intriguing patterns to them as they grow. It even told how flower petals have a sequence to them. I was so awe struck that I found myself looking deep within my soul to bring myself in more tune with the Earth and its Creator after I read the last paragraph. There the writer mentioned how our Creator 'made everything pretty in its time'.
There is one picture I tucked into my heart and mind so I can reflect on it when I really become upset of the condition of Earth. It is one I found on the inside cover of the magazine. It is of a mother giraffe and her baby. The mother is nuzzling her baby with its nose. This heartwarming picture reminds me that there is still good things here on Earth and gives me hope not to lose faith.
Never stop hoping or talking about the things happening on Earth. As long as people like you, Jay, others and me care and speak out about the horrible conditions and things being done to our Home, we will be heard, for voices are very powerful when used for the good of all Creation.

Mikaela! I do agree with you , it worries me that so many people really dosen´t seem to care, they think about how they dresses, what kind of car they have ,if they are thin or fat , we think about ourselfs too much!!! I try to live in a way that dosen´t hurt the nature,it´s not always easy, but at least i dont have a car, i don´t need one. They have built a society that makes us need cars to go shopping, and they want us to belive we need all these things we buy, well of course we don´t! We need all to shout out loud, so goverments listens to us. But somtimes i wonder like you do, do they really care, and if not , why? They have to live here too! Don´t they care about their children! I guess they do ,so why don´t they listen? Is it all about money and power?

You're absolutely right, Gunilla. We all have to do something, even if it's something small. The very reason why I started studying to become a master of science in environmental engineering was to be able to do something and not just idly sit by and watch how others destroy what I love the most. I needed to feel that I would be able to actually DO something about the problem, and now that I'm almost finished with my education I'm desperately trying to figure out where I'd be most useful. There are three main directions I've narrowed it down to right now: remediating (basically clean up) polluted water and soil, work within some kind of agency that controls what industries actually release and regulate this and lastly go to some underdeveloped country in depserate need of food and water to help with water pumps and irrigating their fields in a proper manner. With my education I can do all three, but like I said, where will I be most useful? Do I help people that are in desperate need of help RIGHT NOW or do I try to help and save the planet for future generations? Tough question...
Indiana, I'll try to think about what you said. I just have a really hard time to just let it go. The frustration I mean.

Indiana, that's so cool! I've always been fascinated by herbal medicine but I've never had the time to actually learn something about it. I just know random thing like bark from cherry trees is good against cough, there's a kind of pain relieving substance in the bark of willow and such things. I wish I was able to go outside point at different plants and say "these are good for this and that".
Yes, prayer can help to ease one's mind, but I have this really strong belief that I'm here for a certain reason. There's something I'm supposed to do, and it drives me on and makes it hard for me to sit still and rest, even if it's my mind we're talking about and not my physical person. There's a reason for me feeling this way, and if I pray I pray that I'll see clearly what it is I'm supposed to do and to give me the strength I need to pull it off, coz I have a feeling that it won't always be easy. I know it sounds kind of presumption and pretentious, but I really believe that there's a reason for my urge to help and be useful and that this... restlessness is part of it. I do pray though, and it does help a little. It strengthens my determination and makes it easier to bear it all.

I've got a long way to go before I recognize all the different plants and what they do. I have just began and don't get the time to study herblism as much I like at this time. I have to focus on my pharmacy studies first so I can graduate next Fall.
I am so glad you pray. It does strengthen us.
We are all here for a purpose and were created by our Creator with a strong spiritual side. Don't give up on finding your purpose because it's there. Sometimes our Creator might not answer us right away because it's not the time. The answer to our prayer(s) not only effects us but those around us. Many don't see it that way but is does. Also, at times our prayers may not be answered the way we expect. But we must remember that our Creator knows us best and loves us very much so answers our prayers in a way that will benenfit us the most. Too, it is very important that we fulfill our side of the prayer we ask to the best of our ability. Never forget that the Creator promises us 'if we ask we shall recieve', in line with what we pray for.
My sister, have a great weekend.

Indiana, thank you for your kind and supportive words! I might have made this sound worse than it really is, and the thing is that I'm fully aware of the fact that it's not the right time yet for what I'm supposed to do. It' just that I sometimes get a little jumpy and unsettled by the waiting. Coz even though I know it's not time yet I've still got the urge to DO something, so I try to help out in the little ways I can in the mean time. I've rescued a cat, given away every single piece of clothing I don't use on a regular basis and I'll be helping out at a homeless center and an elderly home next semester. I guess it's something in the mean time.
Once again, thank you sister for being so caring!

You did not make anything sound worse than it is. You just have "alot on your plate" to think about at this time. And despite all your worries you are doing something positive. Like helping others out in need. You will have many blessings come your way for doing so.
It's ok to be "jumpy" at times. But you are doing things to help ease that and pass the time. You mentioned you helped out a cat, give clothes to those in need, and help out with senior citizens. That is absolutely wonderful. Maybe this is part of the "purpose" you are here for. Our Creator does move us to do loving things in ways when we least expect it.
Blessing to you, my sister.

After i saw Into the west, i thought about when white mens came to america and took all they wanted without thinking about the future repercussions. Already today we have deforestation, lakes and rivers polution... We have a lesson to get out of this to make some change for the future generatgions to have a better life. The native people always respected nature and only took what they needed to live. They are great people and they have to be proud of what they are.

Mick:

Mick:

Hi Jay,
After i saw Into the west, i thought about when white mens came to america and took all they wanted without thinking about the future repercussions. Already today we have deforestation, lakes and rivers polution... We have a lesson to get out of this to make some change for the future generatgions to have a better life. The native people always respected nature and only took what they needed to live. They are great people and they have to be proud of what they are. Congratulation for your movies , you are a great actor who seems to emanate lot of positive energys.
Merci beaucoup, Diane du Québec
