I enjoyed the Into the West mini-series and have to admit that I had my doubts at first, but I found myself watching it each week just to keep up with the fate of the characters.
Question Manifest Destiny -- well ... OK I understand that Jay (Chief Prairie Fire) was asked back to do more scenes to play up the relationship between him and Keri (Naomi). So, were these all of the scenes that we actually saw in the episode and/or where some of these precious moments cut out also? Gosh darn.
What about the scenes of Jay riding on the horse with his other braves, the scene of his fatal demise and whatever became of Naomi and the son? My inquiring mind would like to know. Were these scenes cut out to make room for the Prairie Fire/Naomi "getting to know you" scenes? Who can ever know the mind of HOLLYWOOD? Confused
After waiting almost a whole hour in anticipation to see Jay's character emerge, I kinda felt like "Wham, Bam, Thank You Ma'am". But, what a "quickie" it was! Not Jay's fault if alot of the footage ended up on the "Cutting Room Floor". Jay, of course as usual was not a disappointment and continued to live up to his reputation of being a magnificent actor who can "do his do", gives his all and and gets the job done -- perfecto every time.
Peace,

I almost forgot to comment on the scene I liked the best in Manifest Destiny.
There is an old saying that "a look can speak a thousand words" and this was so true because although Chief Prairie Fire did not say a word, the look he gave to 5 Horses when there were others who wanted to trade for her reassured her beyond a doubt that he would not trade her for goods, furs, money or anything. She was more precious to him and worth more than material things. And, although there may have been the language barrier -- all it took was just one look and she knew that she was safe and that he really cared for her. Isn't it true that sometimes "less talk" is better and that "actions speak louder than words"? Words can be empty and lifeless. How believeable is a word and how effective will it be received if it is not spoken from the heart?
Again, Jay has the brillant ability to convey the character's thoughts and emotions without being verbal and he is excellente! A rare gem and a phenomenal talent.
I have almost run out of words to express this actor's amazing gifts. So, I will take my leave now and I think I will now get to working on a dictionary and make up some new words to describe the incomparable Mr. Jay Tavare. Laughing
