Hello to all the Jaybirds,
I noticed some changes to the website. That’s good. Change is always good.
*In less than a month, we will be packing the food for all the foodruns. This year I’m especially excited to be returning to the land to do a foodrun. When I’ve done a foodrun in the past, it’s different because going home to the rez is usually to visit my family. It’s hard to describe in a few words what is felt, learned, and shared during a foodrun. I’ve heard most volunteers comment that they feel they are the ones who get more out of the experience than the Elders. I would encourage everyone to experience a foodrun once.
The dates for the foodruns are:
September 23-26: Dilkon, Leupp, and Birdsprings
September 30-October 4th: Many Farms, Tsaile, and Pinon
October 5-9: Sanders, Teesto, and Big Mountain
You can contact Linda about the foodruns at 435-649-0535. You can also download a Foodrun Application at:
www.anelder.org/i/3514FoodrunApp(Fall2008).pdf
The due date for the applications is August 25th.
*Also, the 19th Annual Rug Show is approaching very quickly. This year’s theme is The Ceremony of Weaving and will feature Elizabeth Clah from Many Farms. The yarn bundles Jay and the Jaybirds help donate this past spring will be picked up as unique, finished rugs on the foodruns. These rugs will be judged in different categories during this year’s Rug Show. The dates for the Rug Show are November 7th to 9th. To view a flyer for the Rug Show you can go to:

Many volunteers are needed to make the Rug Show a success each year. It’s definitely quite a sight to see all the different rugs hanging up in Deer Valley. It’s an even better feeling to see all the months of diligent work that is represented those rugs being sold all weekend. The Jaybirds who came last year had such a wonderful experience. I hope more Jaybirds will be able come this year. You can download a volunteer form at:

You can contact Brenda Carey at 435.785.8287 or pbcarey@allwest.net
The Yarrow hotel is giving the Adopt-A-Native Elder Program Rug Show volunteers a rate of $75 per night.
September, October, and November are busy and exciting months. We would love to have as many Jaybirds come be a part of these events as possible.
Blessings to you all,
Celeste Williams
