Hello All,
When we visit Jay's Film Forum we want to say something nice about each and every movie he has ever played in. My momma used to say when I was younger that "If you don't have anything good to say about something or someone, it's better to keep your mouth closed." Sorry, Momma, I am going to have to break the rules this time. Smile
I am the first to promote and give praise when praise is due and I believe this public Film Forum has been made available to receive both positive and respectfully negative feedback as we are all entitled to our personal opinions. Mine are never meant to be hurtful or damaging. Would your rather a friend smile in your face and tell you everything is ok, when it isn't? It's like when you are walking down the hall and your slip is hanging. Many people would walk right past you without care and not say a word. No matter how good or how bad -- If a friend can't be real, tell it like it is, be straight and to the point and be "up front honest" with you, well ... I'd be questioning their authenticity as my friend, wouldn't you? Oh well ... From my heart and in love ... here goes:
As much as I would love to give a "THUMBS UP" to all of Jay's movies, the reality of Hollywood is that somewhere along the lines of an actor's career perhaps they look back and say, I probably shouldn't have taken that role. But, all-in-all; as we all do in life, we step out sometimes and try something new and different. May not be the wisest of choices, but "hey", we glean what experience we can from it, move on -- AND, don't forget to add it to our resume. Smile
What I will say about El Padrino is this -- a film is only as good as the vision of the director and the hard work put into it by the cast and everyone associated with it. I thought the storyline was VERY good and there were even some well known actors involved in it, put somewhere along the way something got lost.
No disrespect intended to any involved with this picture cause I'm sure everyone worked their butts off, but early on in the movie I began to lose my interest as it became so "humdrum" and I realized there was not anything more special about this movie than others I had seen just like it. It just did not fit into the category of extraordinary. To tell you the truth, I skipped through most of the movie just to get to see Jay's character. He was definitely shown in a different light --contrary to the roles we have been accustomed to seeing him play. The character he played was very convincingly cold, dark and hardcore. Hey now, I am not trying to sound "holier than thou", but to be quite honest --my ears just could not take all of the profanity. And, darn it -- why does Jay's character always have to be killed off??? hehehehehe
El Padrino was a movie that had all the potential to make it a good movie, but something went seriously wrong and all of the pieces just didn't come together for it.
Wishing Jay many more future opportunities to grow and "tweak" his career in whatever way he chooses in an effort to continue to unveil to Hollywood his diversity of talents.
Peace, Love, Hugs & God Bless,
