Hau, I read some interesting information about the movie, The Missing. According to director Ron Howard, Jay Tavare originally read for part of Pesh Chidin, the Apache, El Brujo (witch in Spanish). Howard felt that Jay Tavare had such a positive energy, such a natural goodness about him that he cast him as Kayitah. www.writingstudio.co.za/page464.htmlEric Schweig was cast as Pesh-Chidin. I hope it is alright if I post the link on this forum, it is really so interesting, at least it was for me, to learn what Tavare, Jones, Schweig and others went through to make this movie. Learning probably the most difficult of the Native American dialects, Chiricahua Apache, using weapons from the 1900's that were very heavy, and having to fire them while riding horseback. Truly an amazing movie! darkwolfhowls

He read for the evil man? I'm glad Ron didn't put him in that role. That's why Ron's such a great movie maker, he knows what is best It would have been interesting to see Jay acting as the evil leader if they didn't make him look awful because a good looking person who is evil, well they have to show forth their evilness in their expressions etc even more than a person who is made up to look scary and evil. Eric's character looked on the outside like he was on the inside, which is evil. Jay would have had to spend alot of time in makeup, being made scary ;D Jay as Kayitah reminded me of a mountain lion or panther. Love his long hair. He looks even more gorgeous with long hair (if that is possible) He did a great death scene. He was brilliant in this as was everyone. I need to rewatch his scenes as the dialogue tends to fade into the background when he's onsreen Tommy was brilliant and so was Cate and the little blonde girl. I've seen her in a couple of movies. The actor who played his son looks like the actor who plays Loved By The Buffalo in Into the West. I wonder who read for the part of Kayitah originally? I'd like to see Eric Schweig in another role where he is not evil. Interesting about the weapons. I noticed the gourd Tommy was drinking from when they were by the fire.

Tommy Lee Jones is one of my favorite actors. He had a grandparent from the Cherokee Nation.

I did not know that. Fascinating. The role must have had extra meaning for him I've seen him in a couple of other movies but cannot remember which ones. I did notice Val Kilmer ;D Not sure I would have noticed him without you telling me. Perhaps I would have recognised the voice. I watched Jay's scenes again and forgot to say before how wonderful it is to see Jay riding and jumping on the horse! ;D I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a tortise/turtle in the movie I see them alot everywhere
