Hello, everyone. My name is Masuda. I have been a volunteer with the Adopt a Native Elder Program (ANE) for about ten years. It is my pleasure to work with Jay and all his wonderful supporters. I had so much fun getting know some of you at the last Rug Show.
I wanted to send you a line and let you know that there is a lot of activity right now at ANE. You might already be aware that the Spring Food Runs are just around the corner. So, we have been very busy gearing up for that - boxing foods, medical boxes, Grandma and Grandpa boxes, etc. The Oljato and Navajo Mountain food runs are from March 30-April 1st; then the remaining food runs will be April 27th through May 13th.
My kids and I have helped with boxing the food for food runs each Spring and Fall since the kids were little, and we are going to be doing that again in April, but I have not yet gone on a food run. I would love to go now that the kids are older, and hope to do that in the Fall. I read a couple of wonderful articles on the ANE blog recently that explain the food run experience, you might find them interesting as well: anelder.blogspot.com/2010/02/what.html and anelder.blogspot.com/2010/01/quest-of-giving.html. If you have an interest in joining in on a food run one day, let me know.
It looks like the 2010 Rug Show will be the weekend of November 12th - so save the date! In January we had a preliminary gathering of volunteers to begin thinking about the theme for the 2010 Rug Show - Weaving for World Peace. John Aldrich has an article on the ANE blog about the theme: anelder.blogspot.com/2010/01/quest-of-giving.html. (Thanks to John for creating and maintaining the blog - he's doing a wonderful job! I suspect many of you are already aware of his article about our beautiful friend, Rosita - anelder.blogspot.com/2009/12/volunteer-profile-rosita-van-den-burg.html). Our next meeting to begin planning the Rug Show is on Sunday, January 21st.
In the mean time, I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.
Jay, good luck with the marathon - I know it will be a great day for you! Thank you so much for all you do for ANE!!
