Here is the Event Schedule:

Thursday, November 11, School Programs and Grandma Party
Friday, Nov. 12, 10 am-9 pm, School Programs a.m., Grand Opening 6 pm, Auction 8 pm
Saturday, Nov. 13, 10 am-6 pm, Navajo Princess, Weaving Demonstrations, Grandma Idol
Sunday, Nov. 14, 10 am-6 pm, Veterans Day Ceremony, Weaving Demonstrations, Pow Wow
Would you like to participate in the 2010 Rug Show? If so, here are a few ways that you can become involved:
1. Sponorship
The Adopt a Native Elder Program (ANE) is a non-profit humanitarian organization that delivers food, clothing and medical supplies to Navajo Elders living on the reservation in Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Most of these Elders live in remote areas and follow a traditional lifestyle. Many have neither electricity nor running water. Most of our Elders live far below the national poverty standard.
For twenty years our volunteers have hosted an annual Navajo Rug Show. The Rug Show is a place for elders to sell their rugs to support themselves. It is also our only fundraiser all year. Funds generated help us pay for the services we provide for the Elders all year long. Your Sponsorship will help the Elders sustain their traditional way of life. For example, your Sponsorship of $100 provides flour for 12 Elders; Sponsorship of $3,000 gives 85 Elders much-needed medical supplies. Sponsors will be acknowledged in the Rug Show program.
2. Auction Donations
There is both a silent auction and live auction on Friday night when the Rug Show opens to the public. As you know, Jay and Rosita have both donated items over the years for the auction, and have raised funds for ANE and the elders the program supports. I believe Rosita is working on something along the lines of this year’s theme, “Weaving World Peace.” Perhaps you have a talent and would like to make something for the auction, or maybe you have a business that can provide appropriate goods or services as auction items.
3. Grandma Party Gifts
On Thursday afternoon at the Rug Show, there will be a party for the Grandmas. ANE Program Director Linda Myers has learned that our Navajo Grandmas really enjoy auctions, so this year, we will have an auction for them. They will be given play money and paddles and will be able to bid on various gift packages. These packages will be items that the Elders really need, like blankets, towels, coats, kitchen items, tea kettles/teas, bed sheets. These are just some ideas, maybe you have more. We are trying to put together 40 packages for the Grandma Party auction.
4. Volunteering at the Rug Show
In the last few years, ANE has been blessed with Jay’s support of the program, as well as that of his supporters. Several of you have come to Utah and volunteered at the annual rug show. I know you found it to be a spiritual and rewarding experience to volunteer. I hope to see you “Jaybirds” again this year, and I hope more of you will come to share this experience with us. I know it means a lot to Jay that you all support a cause that is so close to his heart.
May you all be well and happy.
