So much so, I watched it twice. Very Happy
I know I am late in getting around to seeing it, but I was glad I waited.
Yes, it was bloody & gory and I suppose it was Marcus Nispel's vision to try and capture the true essence of who the Vikings really were -- ruthless killers, human eradicators, born & trained to kill in order to claim territory for themselves. Well, wasn't that just how Alexander the Great did it and so many other conquerors?
I thought that Jay was superbly and magnificently strong and well-cast in his role of Blackwing and had more lines than I thought. He brought a substance to the character and the film. Although Starfire wasn't interested in spending her future with him, he was watching her "like a hawk." Very Happy
It was good to see that he & Ghost finally made amends.
And, after his demise (YIKES) I really wasn't too much interested in the rest of the movie which slowed down and dragged on endlessly with the cave and mountain scenes. I was like -- "Alright already -- are the bad guys ever gonna get killed off"?
All-in-all, Pathfinder was action-packed (loved the sledding down the mountain on the shield scene and Karl Urban ultimately flying off the top of the mountain dropping hundreds of feet into the water below). Jay & the bear (SLAM) -- almost reminded me of Escape to Grizzly Mountain although this bear was really fierce.
Gotta go get Pathfinder to add to my collection.
Don't know why it didn't do well in the theaters, but perhaps now that it is showing on Pay-Per-View and available on DVD --people will be asking "Who was that guy who played Blackwing"? You can't take it from Jay -- Jay can speak a million words with just a look or a gesture. KUDOS
Peace,
