Hello everyone, my name is Jay Tavare. I have been involved with Adopt A Native Elder program ever since I found out what Linda Myers and her program stood for, almost half decade ago. In Hollywood one must nurture their soul, so I was looking for a charity that I could help out first hand and one that really made a difference. I found all of that and more in ANE. This unique program is much more than a charity, this event brings the different cultures together, so that both people can see... the beauty of the others soul.
Last November I was invited to attend the annual rug show in Utah. To say my visit was magical would be no exaggeration, from the first moment I met the master rug weavers, who are cleverly disguised as elderly Navajo grandmothers, I could feel the warmth and love coming from them. The Navajo rugs are beautiful expressions of Sacred Art, each rug tells a story, unique patterns are used for each weave, telling their story by colors found and collected in nature in that particular year. Each rug holds a piece of the weavers soul in my eyes and their price is well matched with their unique beauty!
The three days were choreographed so well, with each moment a new group would walk through and watch the events at hand. It really was hard to imagine everyone helping out, were volunteers and many had come a long way, to help out in any way they could.
I was touched, moved and enlightened by my stay and I will treasure the rug that was given to me as a gift. There is so many layers to this beautiful cake called ANE, that the only way to really experience it, is to dig in and taste it for yourself. Come see the rug show for yourself and meet the master weavers who are passing on their craft to the younger generation for safe keeping.
I like to thank Linda and Lisa and everyone at the program for their kind hospitality and I look forward to an even a better year this year.
I will continue do everything in my power, to increases the awareness of this amazing program.
Nan dols talsh... see you again.
With all my heart,
Jay Tavare
