I know as I write this, no matter how colorful my words, the real event was that much more than what you read here.
I made it to this years Adopt a Native Elder " ANE "
annual rug show in Utah Park City. I was once again greeted with so much love and affection by all the elders and the volunteers who work for this wonderful program.
I had a full schedule for the 4 days I was there, doing TV and radio interviews daily and giving talks and even playing my flute in front of many folks who had come to be part of this years celebrations and the rug show.
As some of you may or not know, every year there is a theme and the rugs that are woven match the title chosen for that year. 2007 was about a mothers legacy and we celebrated the Male Weavers.
I must say three brave Jaybirds flew themselves from all over USA to be there and to volunteer their help in anyway possible.
RRF the forum hostess and Raven Hawk who is another Jaybird, came all the way from NY City and they work so hard that I was told in 12 years no one had raised as much money in that department as they did!
Wow, I am so grateful and humbled to see you ladies over there and I like to say you made me proud to call you my friends.
We also had another Jaybird from Florida who bid on the package that was in the auction and her bid of 2000 dollars was the highest bid of the night and helped to raise much needed cash for the Elders who are in need. She wanted to remain nameless but I wanted her to know her big heart and her donation was just so generous.
I also had money send from all over the World from Jaybirds from Germany and Holland and Spain. The Jaybird community is growing and the people who join us are truly the kind of folks I am looking for. Selfless and giving, they made me so so proud.
One Jaybird from Holland by the name of Rosita, who is a 20 year old spiritual painter, painted the most stunning painting in honor of the Grand Mothers who are master weavers and she managed to get the painting on time to Utah for the auction.
It was just amazing to see all the folks pull together and help me raise more money for this event.
Thank you thank you thank you.
Much has been said about the Jaybirds and this site, but these ladies showed words are cheap and with their actions they showed me and everyone else that the Jaybirds walk their talk!
On the first night at the dinner with all the elders I had to fight not to break down to tears as 50 or more elders lined up to give me a gift that they had made themselves, just for me.
As each one placed their necklaces or rings or leather bags around my neck they held me close and looked into my eyes and let me know they truly appreciated all that we have done for them. It was so moving and emotional!
When I say we, I mean all the wonderful people who are helping me to raise money and awareness of this program.
When they were done I looked like the Indian Mr. T.
This is why this site and wonderful ladies who are here are worth standing up for.
This is why I have this site, it makes every problem worth it, as I stood back and watched RRF work her magic with Raven Hawk and how everyone hugged them as we were leaving with teary eyes. They made such an impact.
I am not sure about the numbers but I know we had a great weekend and I wanted all of you who did your part in raising money and gave of your time and efforts, it was all worth it.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, I am sure you will hear their stories as we reflect on this year's Rug show.
I like to thank Linda Myers, Celeste, Grace, Paul and Shawn for all their hospitality and all the Adopt an Elder program volunteers and helpers for giving me so much love, thank you.
With all my humble heart,
Jay Tavare.

Hi Everyone!
I would like to share my experience at the ANE Rug Show.
I'm still in awe of this weekend's events. I feel privileged to be a part of the ANE program. Many thanks to Jay Tavare for sharing his passion. I am so glad that I read about the program on his website. From the moment I arrived I was astounded by the welcome and love that filled the rooms of the Rug Show. It's much more than a Rug Show or charity event. I learned history, culture and respect. The experience has fed my spirit in countless ways, something I won't soon forget. You are welcomed and treated as part of the family.
Jay, once again had a powerful impact on my life as well as many others. His energy was felt by everyone. Even though I've read stories that he's shared on the forum, there is nothing like "Jay Tavare LIVE". He is truly a blessing and I am honored to call him a friend.
It was a pleasure to meet Running Red Fox and Raven Hawk. They represented the Jaybirds with class and style. They spent days traveling and volunteering for the show and I witnessed the tears of gratitude when it was time to depart for home.
Outside of the event, everyone recognized Jay from his movies. He made time to speak with each of them, answer questions, sign autographs and take photos with them. Inspiring and uplifting, to say the least. Looking forward to next year and proud to be the newest Jaybird.
Blessings and respect,
Diane

Hello everyone;
Yes we had a heart-warming, magical, up-lifting, fun-filled, and cultural experience at the AANE Rug Show in Park City, Utah. Attending this event was one year in the making for me. It was so wonderful to meet and interact with the Grandma Master Weavers and their families; the Male Weavers and their families; the volunteers; and the staff members of the program.
I am so overwhelmed with joy and love from the new relationships that I have been able to form from this experience. Without a doubt a strong bond has been formed and there is no turning back, it will grow and grow.
Diane, it was a pleasure to meet you as well and welcome to the family and yes this was much more than a rug show or a charity event. It was filled with love & respect. Ravenhawk, I am so glad we got to experience this together. Shout-out to the Jaybirds that sent donations, and Rosita for the painting.
To Linda Meyers, Celeste, Becky, Cindy, and all the wonderful people that are just too many to name, it was an absolute pleasure to be there with you side by side in our efforts to make the occasion a wonderful success.
To the “Grandma Weavers” and “Male Weavers” and families, thank you for accepting me into your life. I look forward to seeing you all again soon and am wishing the best for you all. The rugs were out of this world and it was plain to see that so much love, time, & energy went into the weaving of them.
Jay, thank you for your positive words and for bringing the awareness of this program to us all. Your presence is majestic and one that can never be denied. You are such a magnificent spirit. I am proud to be called your friend.
Best regards and blessings to all,
RRF

Hi everyone, we wanted to add that Jay had a basket in the auction with several DVD's of his films as well as the shooting script from the Oscar winning film COLD MOUNTAIN with a call sheet, that is a collector item. Also a sample of what we have on the new Jay store for sale and a pair of jeans that was designed by Jay and a famous London design group. One of a kind.
We are told this basket raised on of the highest, if not the highest bid of the night with $2000 dollars as the winning bid by Diane the newest of Jay-birds.
Congratulation to Diane and her generous bid.
Lucky Diane I wanted the jeans. They were hot.
You can see them in the red coat shot on my space.

Hello to all,
I would love to share some of my wonderful enlightening experience of the A N E ( Adopt-a-Native-elder) Rug Show in Park City Utah.First of all Park City is a beautiful town surrounded by absolutely gorgeous mountains that give you a feeling of tranquility.
On the first night of our stay we had the honor and privilege to be invited to a special gathering for the elders and their families. This was such a warm feeling of togetherness. At this special occasion Jay was honored with such love and blessing everyone adored him from the very small children to the Elders, and everyone in-between.
This was the beginning of an extraordinary event. On our second day at the A.N.E we were so excited to find out our assignments. The wonderful families and volunteers that we met were so friendly and nice, and welcomed us with open hearts and arms. It felt like this was the beginning of long friendships and extended family. It was all so amazing and heartfelt.
By the third day I was truly ecstatic and I felt so very blessed to be able to attend this momentous event in honor of the Master Weavers and there families.
On the day of our departure I was so overwhelmed with gratefulness and joy for the experience of the A.N.E that I was brought to tears.
