On behalf of the Adopt-A-Native Elder Program, particularly the weavers, I would like to thank Jay and all the Jaybirds for the donation made to the Adopt-A-Native Elder Spring Foodruns. The donation will help to provide three newly designed yarn bundles to our weavers for this year’s Rug Show. This year’s theme is The Ceremony of Weaving and will feature our weaver Elizabeth Clah. The link to see the picture for the Rug Show is:

The three types of rugs we’ve asked the weavers to create for this year’s Rug Show are The Ceremony of Weaving, Offerings, and Moon Over The Cornfields.
The colors of the yarn bundle for the ceremonial basket design are burnt umber, burnt sienna, maroon, sand and oatmeal. The Dineh (Navajo) use this basket during ceremonies. The opening in the basket design always faces east. Everything begins in the East.
The colors of the yarn bundle for Offerings (At First Light) are blue, sky blue, brown, gold (orange), pale yellow and rust. When nighttime is gone and a new day is dawning is when corn pollen is offered to the East. Corn pollen is used to do prayers, blessings, and in all ceremonies.
The colors of the yarn bundle for (Harvest) Moon Over The Cornfields are purple, turquoise, magenta, grey and black. Corn is a main staple and is used in many different ways. The full moon signifies completeness. The moon itself is usually not pictured because of its relation to the female menstrual cycle but can be depicted through moonlight.
During the Foodruns, each weaver will be given these yarn bundles to weave their interpretation of these themes. For those Jaybirds who are interested to see the finished rugs in person, we shall see you in Park City at the Rug Show, November 7th through the 9th.
Thank you to all.
In Blessings,
Celeste Williams

It would be fantastic to be able to attend the rug show. It would be even more fantastic if I could bring my elder with me. Hmmmmm...got some thinkin' to do to see if I could pull this off.

Now that Linda and all the volunteers are back safely and rested from the Foodruns, I just wanted to post a quick update for all of you.
The weavers were so excited to receive the new yarn bundles. Many smiles and giggles were seen and heard when they found out that the yarn was from Jay and his sweet Jaybirds. Between now and the Rug Show, they will be busy weaving their finest and most creative rugs.
I'm excited to see the finished rugs hanging in Deer Valley for the 19th Annual Rug Show and Sale, which is just 24 weeks away. It would be so wonderful to see more Jaybirds attend and witness the amazing rugs and to visit with the weavers who made them.
Blessings to you all,
Celeste Williams
