Apr 9, 05 - 8:27 PM Answer for Lurker 007.
Lurker 007 Asks...
Hey Jay, I am your ever loving Lurker 007. I have a pretty simple question for you. At least simple for me to ask maybe not so simple for you to answer.
I have noticed that everybody talks about how gorgeous and fine you are. What I wanna know is does this ever bother you? I mean I realize that complements are nice but, if they are use too much they can cause damage.
People may not see you for you and you can become nothing more than a pretty face.
My other question is people always talk about what a good spirit you have and what it would be like if they met you. Does this put any kind of pressure on you to act a certain way when you meet people? I mean are you ever afraid that people won't except you for who you are?
Oops guess I had more than one question.
Jay Writes...
Hello 007, a psychological question...? Hmmmm from someone who would rather remain in the shadows?... How intriguing...!
I always believed its not what people say, its why they said it ... it's not what people do, its why they do it? If you apply that in your life you find the deeper meanings. There is a Jay that exists in everyone's mind here on this forum, now they may be similar, but I guarantee that no two mental images are the same. Then there is the Jay I see which could yet be someone else. The compliments are a sweet gesture from the fans but ultimately they do not change the mental image I have of myself. I have my mixed background to thank for the way I look but beauty can be a gift or a curse if one does not handle it correctly. Every one of us is being judged at all times and I do agree to some extend Celebs must live up to the expectation of their public but I do not go out of my way to modify my behavior. I was not born perfect. I don't believe anyone is but part of the purpose in the journey of life is to refine the things that we are passionate about and hope to reach our destination having mastered some of them.

Nice answer, Jay. Well said. I totally agree that beauty can be a blessing or a curse, depending on what the individual does with it. I like how you seem to have managed to stay civil and sane through all of the flattery you get. Handsomeness without conceit is a beautiful thing!
Holler!

Very nice. Having stood next to a guy comparable to Jay in the looks dept and having been shoved out of the way by other women because of it, I appreciate Jay`s answer to the question. I had an argument with a ex-roomie of this particular guy which consisted of, yes, he knows he`s that good-looking and wields it, but, I said, this is really a good man. yes, this mutual friend said, and? ok, I said, he doesn`t beileve it. Yeah, AND? doesn`t accept it. Right. Packaging can be lovely. Self-belief and self-empowerment are much better. The imperfection are, well, fun.

Hey Jay,
The 'Lurker' had a real good question, and your answer was especially thought provoking. Many times when I post to your forum,I remind myself that what we read and/or perceive are our own opinions based on such things as our past/present environments, personal relationships, life experiences etc.. I ask myself, why is it I'm here, what is so special about this person who I've never met, and do not know. Why am I spending my precious time on this site. I am a very independent, and I believe strong person. This involvement is so utterly out of character for me.
Yet I acknowledge that as I've often stated , 'everything happens for a reason'. When I reflect upon this justification, those things gained from your site are boundless - multiple 'new' friendships, and a fresh awareness that truly good people do still exist.
I try to always remind myself that when I make a statement pertaining to your supposed personality, I use the words 'seems like'. And as I've posted before, either I sense a kindred 'spirit', or are endlessly challenged by your intellect. That kindred sense, and the intuitive kindness of all the friends on this site are the true reasons I remain.
A handsome or beautiful person becomes quickly mundane, if they do not have an intriguing, fun, open-minded and thought provoking persona to back it up. At least, that is my rationalization.
With age, hopefully comes some semblance of wisdom, and a reflection of those things which have shaped our outlook as to our purpose in this universe, thus one must acknowledge that you could be a good 'actor' in every sense of the word. However, that is not my belief, and therefore I am eager to read what you may say on this or that topic, and share some silliness with the other Jaybirds.
Your answer was genuine, and reminds us that we must remain realistic in our perceptions of people-celebrity or otherwise. We are all still the same - imperfect, error-ridden, examples of humanity.
Have a good one Jay..

Hey Jay 007 is my friend. I hooked her on to u a while ago. Unfortunatly she does not own a computer she sent her question from mine. So for her I thank you very much she was very excited when my mom (who is typing this for me, not back yet) told her over the phone.
Her response went something like this...
"OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!!! You are kidding me right!?"
"Please tell me that you are not lieing."
"I am going to cry...no, I am going to be sick...no I am going to cry and then be sick"
"I love that man. Tell him thank you and to keep his feet on the ground"
As soon as I get back which will actually be soon I will let her leave a message if she so pleases.
We both love u much, Oh and good answer

Heya Shygirl! Tell your Lurker Friend that she needs to get on here more often and maybe quit lurkin and get back to postin! Grin. If your friend doesn't have a computer, you ought to point her towards her local goodwill Electronics store. I know, hand me downs aren't cool, but every so often you can find a great deal on parts and it's about the 1/4th of the price of a brand new computer. Grin. I made one of mine for under $75 if you can believe that. Either that or invite her to post on your computer more often cuz I liked her question!
Jay, you rock the kasbah like always, but you already know that.

Hi Lurker 007 and Jay,
Fair question and excellent answer, as always. I don't think any of us would return to this website on a regular basis if it just involved a handsome face or a "brush with fame". Most of us, of course, wer initially attracted to Jay because of the presence he commands on more than one level and we stay because we have all made friends here and think of Jay as a real and valuable human being who has something(s) good to share-as do all of us . Thanks Jay for taking the time......
