Toosie Asks...
Hello JAY! I pray all is well with you.
My question: Every once in awhile I let my mind drift to this one question: Where was I or what was I before I was born? I believe in scripture but I can't quite wrap my brain about this one question.
Any thoughts?
Jay Writes...
Dear Toosie, your question is one of the oldest in the books and there are many philosophies about it. We now know that every cell in our body used to be something else. The blood in your veins was once sea water ... it evaporated and became rain and washed across the land, down the hills, into rivers, and back to the sea. If you go even smaller, every atom in your body was once a star! We have a physical body and a Spiritual body and I believe the Spirit is pure energy and it cannot die so when the physical shell passes away, that energy moves on. If you could tap into the information that is in your DNA, you probably would have memories of many events that your ancestors experienced ... that is why I say we are all connected.
I also believe Life is an opportunity to prepare your soul. The soul must go through the physicality of life with all it's hardship, pain and strives, till it's ready for it's next journey. Just as a chunk of coal is the most common element on the planet but if you bury it and give it enough time and pressure it will eventually become a diamond...one of the rarest things in the world. In the same way our soul needs to go through hardship which is the pressure in life till it crystallizes into a diamond.
I feel your loss and I know it's not easy but think of what you had rather than what you have lost. This is a time of reflection and you are probably num, but feel free to grieve and let time heal you and transform you for your next stage.
I like to leave you with this...
Don't Stand at my Grave and weep, For I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow...
I am the Diamond's Glint on the snow...
I am the Gentle Autumn's Rain...
Don't Stand by my grave and cry, I am not There,
I Did not Die...
With all my heart,
Jay.

Toosie, be sure to check your snail mailbox soon. You have something waiting for you.
I hope you feel better soon! While sitting during boring board meetings, I can't stop having my mind wander and keep wondering how you are feeling. I'm cheering for you girl!
Jay you are super duper sweet. I'm sure Toosie appreciates your post.
I've always liked that poem.
Here's the rest of it.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the song that will never end.
I am the love of family and friend.
I am the child who has come to rest
In the arms of the Father
who knows him best.
When you see the sunset fair,
I am the scented evening air.
I am the joy of a task well done.
I am the glow of the setting sun.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

Apr 27th, 2005 - 5:24 PM Re: For Toosie.
Thank you so much Jay for your kind words and poem. That poem is one of my favorites!
I found your answer to my question even deeper than the question! I will have to sort thru it as it is quite interesting and delves into a lot of things I have been thinking.
Anyway ...
The reason I came on the board tonight is to thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and words of encouragement. I have received an outpouring of wel wishes, e-cards, a fruit basket and the most fragrant roses that arrived at the funeral home today. I am touched beyond belief. I told my family about it and they were surprised and pleased as well. The Guy In The Back - my best friend Gary, just smiled and said what do you expect from such an incredible group of people.
Jay hit the nail on the head when he said I was numb. I saw my mom in the casket just couldn't believe it -- still don't. I am not one who is prone to tears but I just can't seem to stop.
I try to picture my mom in heaven, dancing and having a party which is exactly what mom was all about.
The funeral was beautiful. Tons of flowers which I know mom would have loved. Lots of friends and family and support not only for mom but for each of us. We had Frank Sinatra playing in the background -- mom loved to play him and so many other singers of that time and just dance, dance, dance. Paul had the bagpipes playing as people arrived and the service ended with Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
My sister, Janine, had Benjamin David a month early but both mom and baby are doing well. This is baby #8 for Janine and her husband David.
I am glad that my mom is no longer in pain but my heart misses her. I am trying to remember all the great times we had together -- which is in abundance -- and not remember the end.
Thank you again for all your love and know that if any of you ever need anything I am here for you.
With all my love,
Susan

I am so glad to hear that the service was wonderful and u had more than enough love and support there. The numbness will fade away eventually. I remember when my favorite grandfather died my mother never seemed to cry and then one day when we were in the super market a man passed us by he kind of looked like my grandfather my mother stared at him and when we got home my mother just started crying.
She cried for a long time and my sister and I did our best to wrap our little arms around her and give her the comfort she needed but she just kept crying.
We were both to young to realize that that was what she needed to do.
It will come you'll have a good cry u may even laugh and cry but when it is through u will know that u were trully able to let ur mom go and u will also feel that she is in your heart always. You can still talk to her anytime u may not be able to hear her but she can here u.

Dear Toosie,
You are a thoughtful, and strong woman to share this 'day' with everyone.
Reading your reply, just now, reminds me of Jamie Fox's acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. He said that the woman who raised him - his beloved Grandma had recently passed on, and they always talked about everything. "Now they talk in his dreams, and that on that special night, they would have a lot to talk about." This is the way I think of loved ones who have moved on. They watch over us, exist in our hearts, remain always when we need to talk, because of their eternal love.
Take care,
Dazz

ya know.
I got all sentimental a couple years back cuz of similar reasons and I rampaged through my apartment trying to find a little something that helped me out a while ago and I figured that this might help you out like it did me.
It's a poem that I really enjoy by Hans Christian Andersen called the Dying Child. Except I replaced the Child with my Mom in it's place. It really got to me a lot and reading it really helped me out. Maybe it might help you out, it really made me feel better inside whenever I read it.
I would switch "Mother" with "Daughter" when I read it though. Hope this helps you.
Mother, I'm tired, and I would fain be sleeping;
Let me repose upon thy bosom sick;
But promise me that thou wilt leave off weeping,
Because thy tears fall hot upon my cheek.
Here it is cold: the tempest raveth madly;
But in my dreams all is so wondrous bright;
I see the angel-children smiling gladly,
When from my weary eyes I shut out light.
Mother, one stands beside me now! and, listen!
Dost thou not hear the music's sweet accord?
See how his white wings beautifully glisten?
Surely those wings were given him by the Lord!
Green, gold, and red, are floating all around me;
They are the flowers the angel scattereth.
Should I have also wings while life has bound me?
Or, mother, are they given alone in death?
Why dost thou clasp me as if I were going?
Why dost thou press thy cheek so unto mine?
Thy cheek is hot, and yet thy tears are flowing!
I will, dear mother, will be always thine!
Do not sigh thus – it marreth my reposing;
But if thou weep, then I must weep with thee!
Ah, I am tired – my weary eyes are closing –
Look, mother, look! the angel kisseth me!
