Apr 14th, 2007 - 5:58 AM Re: I saw Pathfinder
I went to the 10 pm showing of Pathfinder last night. The movie was excellent yet very disturbing. I already knew the history somewhat but when you see a history re-created and shown on the big screen it really makes you feel like you were there. It stirred up many emotions within me. While I was watching it I was thinking to myself about the world being so big why must there always be one group who thinks they deserve/wants everything and are willing to do whatever and hurt whoever to get what they want. This story has repeated itself throughout history so many, no too many times! I want to say more but I don't want to mess things up for the Jay birds who haven't seen Pathfinder yet!! In my opinion though we all should be celebrating NATIVE AMERICAN DAY instead of Columbus DAY!!!
I have to admit when I saw Jay first appear I elbowed my husband and said "There's Jay!" with a big smile on my face! He just looked at me and said “You are going to see that new Haley Berry movie with me.” lol
Jay, Karl Urban, Moon Bloodgood & Russell Means did an excellent job!!!
Jay, you rocked!!! I am looking forward to seeing you in your next project!!!.

Apr 14, 07 - 11:56 AM Jay you looked amazing in Pathfinder!
I saw Pathfinder last night with some of my friends and we all agree it was a visiual feast and it made me think what it must have been like when the Vikings arrived on our land. Carl Urban who I am a fan of looked great and so did Moon but Jay stood out among the natives. What screen presence! I had read on this forum that the film was re-edited and I am sure we all would have liked to have seen more of Jay but he still managed to convey a powerful character. Jay's look was different yet again from all his other films and his hair was rocking! Talk about a cool Mohawk! He is truly a movie star with the ability to change with each role. I envy the women who have seen him in real life. I know Pathfinder was not the movie I expected but it was no let down either

Aug 1st, 2007 - 1:57 PM Re: Pathfinder Unrated edition! My break down of this film.
Okay okay, listen up, OMG, this version of Pathfinder had so many more of Jay's scenes and additinal dialogue, there was a lot more back story too. Also Jay's voice was all his, in the theatrical version there was a scene that did not sound right to me.
This is great news for all the Jay fans, you get to see a lot more of Jay in Pathfinder now!!!!
I watched the film with the commentary by Marcus Nispel the director, he speak highly of Mr. Tavare and he says that Jay was his first choice for Pathfinder and he came in looking much older for the audtion and when the studio wanted a much older person for the character, they cast Russell Means, Jay was then cast as the younger Black Wing.
He says, Jay is like Peter sellers and that he can change himself to play his own father and son at the same time. LOL
I really enjoyed the un-rated version much more and they had the love scene in there too, although it's not with Jay it was a hot scene. lol
This film will do much better on DVD and by the looks of the sales and rentals it's hot item already!
My advice to all the Jay fans, it's a must see .

Hello to all old and new friends of the JT family!
I’m usually a quiet observer on this forum, but after I watched Pathfinder I wanted to share my experience and ask others opinion.
I liked the story, I liked how it was shot, I liked all the costumes, but .... some how the whole movie did not work for me. :?
First of all main character Ghost is underdeveloped. Movie did not show strong enough connection to his Indian family. Black Wing has much more going on despite the fact that a lot of his scenes were removed. Jay just has a stronger presence; Karl Urban looks really plain next to him. Black Wing goes from being jealous and resentful to realizing that they are same “kind” (the family if you will). He makes amends with Ghost and dies bravely protecting him and woman they both love. Black Wing is a solid character with beautiful story line.
Ghost learns what he knew all along – his father and his fathers friends are merciless killers. He did not like them as a boy, and he did not like them as a grown man. However as a boy he just took the beating, as a grown man he was able to do lots of beating himself. Pathfinder asked him “Did you have enough of the revenge?” and apparently he did not. I just did not get the message – what exactly Ghost learned from all that happened?
Battle scenes were really hard to watch. In those scenes Indians who were fierce and skilled warriors were mostly standing around waiting to be killed. It looked like Ghost was the only one who was able to fight back. I’m not even going into the whole discussion of how in the world he learned to use the sword – realistically he would’ve been killed in 2-3 seconds. I personally wanted to see a little more of the team work between Ghost and his Indian brothers. There is an attempt to show how Pathfinder helped him win, but I does not come though strongly enough.
Did any one have the same reaction?
Thanks,
Mona __________________________________________________

I also don't post much but I am a Jay fan and I saw the DVD and liked the film, I am a guy so the action was really cool for me and the way it was shot really rocked.
I would have liked to see Jay and Carl fight the Vikings together but they only showed a few scenes of Jay fighting and he looked stong. You could be right that he stole the film from the star. I like the way Jay also handled his bow, very smooth and effective.
I saw Pathfider when it was realesed but the DVD was much better cut of the film.

Hi,
I finally watched the film. Yes the way it was shot (cinematography I guess it is called) was really cool. I loved it. The fight scenes, though, were a bit violent i guess. I also didn't understand why Viking's spoke in Viking language where as Indians spoke in English and I also found Ghost being able to speak Viking (Norwegian?) after a very long time, a bit interesting. Also characters were not really developed or this film is cut tremendously (Haven't watched the deleted scenes yet) and I guess that's the reason for not being able to connect with the "revenge" thing Pathfinder was talking about. However Jay's performance rocked as always and the way Black Wing died was sad and Pathfinder's, ouch. If the plot was better that would have been one crying moment for me LOL. I also LOVED the location. If it wasn't CGI can someone tell me where is this place? Is it Banff by any chance?

I watched Pathfinder yesterday and found it quite interesting. I was not quite sure what to expect, especially since I bought the unrated version. The battle scenes were quite bloody; I had to look away at few scenes. The only scene what that was haunting me and troubled me in my sleep was in the beginning when the boy was ordered to behead the little girl. It was the vision when this little girl was lifting her head to look at the boy's father (?) ... Well, I always find these kind of scenes (involving children) very disturbing and I have to do a bit to get it out of my head again.

Hello: finally got to see Pathfinder. Saw the shorter version that was aired on TV last night. I would only watch it again if I find the DVD that is the longer version or includes the edited out scenes.
Jay looked awesome.....but I was really disappointed in the very few scenes he was in. I agree with a previous poster. The film was so heavily edited that no character was developed enough to make sense. Definately what is left is for the viewer who wants the fighting & gore but not a involved plotline.
I know that the film was shot up here near Vancouver, but a lot of the background was definately artwork and some of the mountain vistas look too rugged and too snowy to be right on the coastline, so possibly shot further away from the Vancouver area.

Jan 28th, 2008 - 10:51 AM Jay voice is all his own on Pathfinder!
In the DVD version of the film Pathfinder, It's all Jay's voice including the scenes that did not make it to the theatrical version. The film that was released on the big screen, which was only the theaters for a few weeks, had one scene that, two lines were done by someone else, we are told this was done as the studio did not want to pay the actors to come back for a day or so, to do their own ADR as it's known!
As shocking as this might sound, when a studio is not happy with a film they often will not spend anymore money on the film, this was also apparent when there was no premiere for Pathfinder. But we are happy to say the only version of the film that will be seen on DVD and later on cable will be the unrated version which has all of JT's scenes and all of his great voice.
The IMDb credit has been removed now, because the voice over actor who reported his two lines, really was looking for more credit than he deserved and IMDb looked into it and removed his credit.
We like to add that Mr. Tavare is himself a voice over actor, and he can be heard in Turok the son of Stone, he is the voice of KOBA.
