I have just returned home, having had an awesome weekend at the 20th anniversary of Adopt a Native Elder Rug Show... Many ask me what is this rug show? On the surface it's a trading event, but it's really so much more... Elders from several reservations work all year to create unique rugs, some with a theme for that year... and they travel to Park City Utah and share of their culture and skills with anyone who attends this magical event... the energy is so pure and powerful...!
This year the JTTP 5 ( Jay Tavare Tribal Party ) a fan gathering, was also held at the same time in Park City instead of the annual Vegas event... I was so honored to have met,... Salina, Michelle, Tanya, Eric and Malaika, Dawn, Rosita and Margaret who along with Vanessa ( RRF ) had organizes this annual event... Roista who had come all the way from Holland for the second year to volunteer and help out was a hit again with her painting of the ANE Logo. The entire event is run by volunteers and I help out each year in any way I can, playing my flute and drums, hosting, radio and TV spots... they even put a red hat on me, as I became the Navajo father Christmas and handed out stockings to the Elders... Ho Ho Ho... Navajo's.... LOL
Words can't really capture the vibration that moved all of us during the past few days... The ladies and gent who had come from all over World to be at the rug show with me... had taken a huge risk, not knowing the out come, but we bonded and worked as a unit, to add a fresh energy to the rug show this year... Dawn and few other Jaybirds honored the Grandma's with a pink rose for each weaver as they lined up and walked past a crowd of applauding people.
Eric stood up to the challenge of Grandma Idol contest and did his human beat box, rapping to the beat of my drums and brought the house down... LOL What a cool guy !
I could go on and on but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who showed up and honored my elders and supported my cause... I know I had a blast and we did raise $1,700+ dollars from my LA Marathon and the auction of my Hollywood bundle and Rosita's painting The Test of Time... Not bad in a recession year !!!!
I want to thank Celeste for all her guidance and help, your inner beauty does match the rest of you... I want to thank Grace and Linda the founders of Adopt a Native Elder program for their hospitality and congratulate them on building such an amazing and rare program that is still growing with each year... I love you both !
I want to thank Vanessa and Claudia who could not make it this year, but worked so hard behind the scene, as did Leeloo my French connection, and everyone who send me money from all over the World to help Adopt a Native Elder program.
I want everyone to spread the news about this wonderful none profit organization and help me to help my Elders who need to keep their tradition alive.
With all my heart
