Streetfighter was the first film of Jay's that got my eyes. I remember seeing his face when he pulls of his mask to reveal his face as the Great Matador "Vega" I was mesmerized by his smiling face and twinkle in his eyes. Love all the stunt and fighting too. Smile

I was pretty much die hard fan of Jay's when I was finally able to see Streetfighter. t first, it was very difficult to find a copy of the movie at national video rental places. I was able to find a copy at a locally owned shop. Whew!
Now, unlike most movie fans who shun movies from video games, I am a fan. I enjoyed Mortal Kombat and of course, Streetfighter. When Vega arrives on the scene, there's a lot of excitement in the air! The Champion has arrived. When he unmasks, it's a breathtaking moment as his beauty graces the screen. I remember thinking how young Jay looked...then he starts to kick butt and take names! My kind of action flick! Van Damme? Van Damme who???!!! Confused Confused Confused

. . . And I've been messed up ever since! Reply with quote I must admit that the real reason that I went to see Street Fighter was because of Jean Claude Van Damme. Oh man! When Vega took off his mask, that was it! That is the first time I ever saw Jay. Jay Tavare snatched a knot in my attention and I haven't been right ever since! Don't believe me? Just ask my sisters! The eyes roll and they say, "Oy Vey" at the mention of his name, since the shrieking and the chortling usually follow once I start talking about the actor's lovely appearance. I'm sure they would refer to him as another one of my "Man Pets", since I giggle over so many. . . *snort.*
Holler!

Like almost everyone else I originally watched Street Fighter because of a different actor (Gregg Rainwater - T Hawk LOL) but when Jay snatched that mask off ... WHOA.
Street Fighter is one of my guilty pleasures I owned it on both VHS and DVD and I thank goodness that it introduced me to Jay and his talent

Hey ladies it's your Queen Deadeye here! Hehehe you were all expecting me to post in THIS forum first, right? Don't worry though, I've already registered and I'm awaiting account activation...
Yes, I absolutely ADORE Streetfighter... for very good reasons. I was never good at school sports but already I enjoyed playing videogames and lo and behold I also found it was something I was very good at! SF was just one of the games I dabbled in but I saw the movie and I instantly fell in love... with both the movie and Vega. Out of process of elimination to see who worked best for me, Vega was already my best player in the games but you should have seen me when I first saw his ending - and when he first took the mask off in the movie! WOW!!!! SF is also a very beautiful and powerful movie, Van Damme's speech is very touching and motivating, and I think those who blame it for Raul Julia's CANCER death ought to be ashamed of themselves especially as I suffered a nasty blow of my own at the same time Raul -oh my word his BEAUTIFUL performance as General M Bison wins him the silver medal while Jay's performance as Vega wins the obvious GOLD!- put the Halo on! I was so impressed with Raul's performance I not only like to think of him as my guardian angel and how rain is his tears from Heaven and lightning and thunder is either him cheering for me or the citizens of Heaven cheering his INCREDIBLE performances (awww!), but I also named one of my CATS after him! And I've still got a score to settle with Byron... Twisted Evil
Even the mere thought of SF -and Vega AND the movie- also pulled me through one very, very bad patch... but the movie especially began to win its place in my heart after multiple airings in one whole year were most obviously the brightest light at the end of one darn long, dark tunnel... but we all know about the mute incident (of which the second anniversary was this week), right? But don't get me started on some of the surprising times WHEN I got airings! Very Happy
Anyhow, Streetfighter is my favorite movie EVER. And not just because I loVE GAmes (yes this was done on purpose). It's very beautiful, powerful and moving and the costumes and scenery are impressive. Raul Julia's Bison costume is impressive, and OH the way he flicks back the CAPE! *drools* I also say this because my family does much work with the theatre, as well as performing my Mom does some really good costumes and jewelery, and I also have an uncle who's a professional tattoo artist and body piercer! Jay if you're reading, if you ever need any costumes or tattooing done then please drop me a line and we'll see what we can do! Same goes for anyone else Very Happy
Oh and if the mods are reading, can I use this forum to announce any future SF airings here in England? Same for announcing other Jay movies (Executive Decision etc.) in their respective forums...

In Streetfighter, Jay Tavare emits an air of confidence as Vega. He maintains his poise from the prominent strides into the fighting ring to the removal of his mask. Many of us knew of the character Vega from the Streetfighter video game and Jay effectively brought him to life. Jay Tavare is a remarkable actor.
